Reading is Inevitable

On the fourth of February, Em and I made another trip to Barnes & Noble, and I thought I would share what we got! Together, we got a total of three books and two little blind boxes! Looking around the store, it was a bit difficult to pick exactly what it was I wanted. I mean, there’s such a large selection! Sure, I’ve seen most of the books before, but there’s always ones that I’m thinking about reading later. And then there’s the question of if I want to buy the book, or give it a try first with my library’s copy of it. (If they even have it!) There were some sections I knew I could skip over. That’s the first step towards progress. For me, that was skipping the usual fantasy-action-“I must save the world” type of teen book. (Sorry. They’re just not my thing.) I also could pass by this table of popular teen books, which mostly had those type of books. Series: Wake Trilogy  Author: Lisa McMann  Genre: YA fiction, romance, crime, mystery, suspense Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Reviewer: Em Wake. Fade. Gone. I. Don’t. Know. What. To. Say. This trilogy was somehow amazing and disappointing all in one? I have very mixed feelings about this trilogy. First off, I finished it in two days over my spring break, and it was a great read. Took me about 4-5 hours to finish each book, which is not too bad. It kept me interested and made me go into a rut of reading after not reading for the longest time! Title: Infinite in Between Author: Genre: YA/teen fiction Rating: 4.25 Reviewer: Em This book was really good. It's about 5 teenagers and their journey throughout high school. They all meet at freshmen orientation. There, they are all placed into the same group, and their group decides to write letters to their future selves. They then make plans to meet at graduation. This book is over their four years of high school.

Hello! In the book-loving community, I have noticed a lot of videos of bookshelf tours uploaded to YouTube or posted on social media accounts. Now, while this is not a video, it is still a bookshelf tour! I thought I might as well do this so that I can share with you my shelves and some of my favorite books! Unlike some people where they have several huge bookcases, I have one bookcase with two shelves. In this post, I will be sharing with you my top shelf, which contains my most liked books that I own. Also, a good number of the books mentioned have a book review up on the blog, so I created links to these posts when you click on them. With that all said, let's get started!

Title: Gena/Finn Authors:   Kat Helgeson and Hannah Moskowitz Genre: Teen/YA realistic fiction Rating: 4 Reviewer: Em This book is way different then I thought it would be. When I picked it up at my local book store, I chose it because, first of all, I liked how it was all in emails and texts and stuff like that; not in the usual format you read a book in. I like books like that. Anyway, I read this book in a day. It was a fairly quick read, but it was interesting - very interesting. I thought it'd just be a cute book on two people meeting, and then becoming great friends (or more, maybe). It was so much more than that. It wasn't like my new favorite book, but still. Like Finn said (I think it was Finn) about the TV show they both love, it's about how the characters change more than the plot. And I found that to be kind of true with this book. You really get to know the characters in this book.

Hello, everyone! So, as of last Monday, it is officially summer, no matter when you got off from school. (Although by now I would imagine that you are on your break.) With summer vacation comes more time, and lots of opportunity to get books read! (There will also be more time for blogging. Thank you, summer!) I am very excited to get reading this summer, and below is my complete list of books that I want to read this summer. Feel free to read "with me" by picking up some of these books this summer! Unfortunately, I know that I won't get to read them all. Notes: If you don't like the books listed below, check out another list of summer books: "Books to Look For: Summer 2016" . Also, they are not in a particular order, and I have no idea what order I will read them in.

Okay, while we all already have a really long TBR list of books that are already published, when new books come out, we just have to read them! Below you'll find a list that includes both books I am personally interested in and books that I think the majority of teens will like. So take a look: you might just find something! Just to let you know, the books are placed in no particular order. And, yes, I did add the pictures of the covers, because I know that those can be helpful (even if we aren't supposed to be judging books by their covers.)

Title: Beautiful Creatures Author: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl Genre: Romantic Fantasy? Rating: 3.75 out of 5 Reviewer: Julia YOUR FATE: to read Beautiful Creatures Fate certainly plays a large role in this book. Every character in this book deals with fate, but if anyone deals with it the most, that would have to be Lena Duchannes. After all, she's the one who will be Claimed on her 16th birthday by the Light or the Dark, whether she likes it or not. There's no way that she can escape her fate, whatever it may be. And she's convinced that she will turn Dark. But Ethan won't let that happen.

Just scroll through the #bookstagram community or the teen section of a book store. What do you find? Teen romance novels. Lots of them. The Fault in our Stars. Say What You Will. To All the Boys I've Loved Before. I can't tell you how many times I've seen these titles. But what about others? I mean, some people like this large number of romance. Others don't. What do I think?

Title: The Light Between Oceans Author: M. L. Stedman Genre: Historical Fiction/Drama R ating:  ∞ out of 5 stars Reviewer: Julia Okay, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give a book infinity out of 5, but I'm going to do it because this book was that good. I have never cried so much or intensely over a single book. (I cried throughout the book and in one consistent stream for the last 50 pages.) I am so in love with it that I have made a shrine of sorts (still looking for a better term for it) on top of my dresser dedicated to it. (Em even contributed to this shrine by making me a lovely drawing of the cover of the book!)

Title: Made You Up Author: Francesca Zappia Rating: 5/5 Genre: YA fiction Reviewer: Emily "'But-but what if this whole place"-I had to suck in air again-'what if everything is inside my head? East Shoal and Scarlet and this bridge and you-what if you're not real because nothing is real?'" This book is told from the point of view of Alex, a high school senior with schizophrenia, which is a mental disease which causes you to have hallucinations, or see or hear things that are not real. She constantly struggles with trying to figure out what is real. Starting her first day of senior year at a new high school, she takes pictures of possible hallucinations, and hopes that no one will ever find out about her. However, there's this boy that looks exactly like her childhood friend, but she had surely made him up, hadn't she?

Title: This is Where the World Ends Author: Amy Zhang Rating: 3.75 Genre: YA fiction romance/mystery Reviewer: Em Janie and Micah have been secret best friends for a long time. However, in the beginning of the book, Micah wakes up in the hospital, not remembering anything after the day Janie moved across town. What happened to him? What happened to her ? That's what he has to find out.

Title: I'll Give You the Sun Author:  Jandy Nelson Genre:  YA fiction Rating: 4.75/5 Reviewer: Em "Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story." This book is absolutely stunning in every way. Literally. No joke, I am being 100% serious. Let's start with the characters. Noah, probably one of the most awesome characters ever created (heck yeah!). He's an ama-zhang artist (I love you if you got the HOO reference) and overall nice person who's just trying to be himself. Jude is pretty much the definition of cool. So, you know, basically Wendy (GF reference!). Not the average person just decides to dive off a cliff. At age thirteen, the twins cannot be separated, but when an art school and strong feelings mix, it turns into a huge mess which results in tension and many unspoken words three years later. 

Title: Everything Everything Author:  Nicola Yoon Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Genre: YA realistic fiction/ romance Reviewer:  Em Everything Everything . This amazing book's main character is Madeline, or Maddy, Whittier. She has a rare condition that keeps her inside all her life, because she will die if she comes in contact with the world. When a boy her age, Olly, moves in next door, her whole world changes for good.

Title: Never Always Sometimes Author: Adi Alsaid Genre:  YA romance/ realistic fiction Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Reviewer: Em "NEVER date your best friend. ALWAYS be original. SOMETIMES rules are meant to be broken." The prologue of this book, (and I love prologues!), starts when Dave and Julia, the two main characters in the book, are about to start high school the next day. They make a Never List, so that they will not become high school clich é s. In the first chapter, it is March senior year, and they decide to break every single rule they have put on the list. But, secretly Dave has always liked Julia more than a best friend. . .
