2017 Reading Goals

So, since 2017 is officially here (and has been for about two weeks), I figured I might as well post about our reading goals for the year! I'll also attempt figuring out all of the books I read in 2016, but I know it'll be far from accurate as I did not write it down and I know I won't remember everything!

For 2016, I actually didn't make any reading goals. I just wanted to finish one book a month, I guess! I can happily say that I did complete this very small goal of mine. (Some people aim for 100 books a year!)

Books Read in 2016

In 2016, I finished...

  • In The Shadow of Man by Jane Goodall
  • The Light Between Oceans by M. L. Steadman
  • Audacity by Melanie Crowder
  • Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke
  • Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin
  • Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
  • Rumble by Ellen Hopkins (or at least I think I read this in 2016, haha)
  • The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes by Anna McPartlin (gosh, is this right? I didn't think I read that many books in 2016!)
  • Being Jazz: My Life as A (Transgender) Teen by Jazz Jennings
  • Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverts by Susan Cain along with Gregory Mone and Erica Moroz ★★★☆☆
  • How Many Letters Are in Goodbye? by Yvonne Cassidy
  • Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  • The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
  • The Whispering Statue by Carolyn Keene
  • Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys
  • The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
  • When Marnie Was There by Joan G. Robinson ★★★☆☆
  • This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki
  • On Writing by Stephen King
  • Hollow City by Ransom Riggs
  • A Separate Peace by John Knowles
(Note: These books aren't in a particular order, although they are, for the most part, organized in the order that I finished them.)

I'm actually pretty proud of myself. I had no idea that I read at least 20 books this year! (I know I'm missing some. The only ones I have are the ones I could figure out through bookstagram, in all honesty.) My favorite would have to be The Goldfinch, and some other favorites were Salt to the Sea, The Light Between Oceans, Symptoms, The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes, How Many Letters Are in Goodbye?, Hollow City, A Separate Peace....You know what? Let's just say I read a lot of good books this year.

Knowing an estimate of how many books I read in 2016 definitely helps me in figuring out a good goal for 2017. Speaking of which, let's move on to that!

Julia and Em's Reading Goals for 2017

It's a popular thing in the bookstagram and book blogging communities to make reading goals for the year, basically saying how many books you want to read in the year! I'm also going to include some books that I want to get to reading in 2017.

In 2017, Em wants to read...(drumroll, please)...50 books! Wow! That's quite a lot, isn't it? She says that she should probably aim for 30 or something lower, but she still wants to go for it. Just to let you know, that's almost a book a week! (I told her it was fine, for some of you bookworms attempt and achieve 100!)

In 2017, I want to read...(a second drumroll, please)...36 books! Heh, not as much, but that's still three books a month (if I'm consistent, which I know won't happen). I know I don't read three books every month right now, so I guess I'll have to do some adjusting....I just hope I don't try reading another colossal book like The Goldfinch! (Although I won't mind if it's very good.)

A Li'l List of Books I Want to Read

Since I'm making a goal for this year, I have to know some books that I want to read! Otherwise, where would I start? Below is a li'l list of books I want to read in 2017 as a sort of a reminder to myself and help to any of you trying to reach your own goals. :)
  • The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
  • Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
  • I Wrote This For You by Iain S. Thomas
  • Wired Man And Other Freaks of Nature by Sashi Kaufman
  • Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
  • The Borrowers
  • The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

That's it for today's blog post! Good luck with your own reading goals for 2017, and if you feel like sharing yours or maybe some tips, I would love to hear about it below in the comment section or on our Instagram!

Our next blog post will be publishing this following Monday, and it's a two-day Barnes & Noble haul! (Yes: two days of Barnes & Noble!) Be sure to come back Monday to read about the books we got, along with some other things too.

  1. Wonderful post as always! My own personal goal is 40 books this year, but seeing how busy it is bond to be, I doubt I will even reach 35. You have a great list of books you read in 2016, I have to pick up The Goldfinch! What did you think of Beautiful Creatures? I personally was not a big fan of it.

    1. Ah, gosh. Sorry I didn't see this until now! Beautiful Creatures was alright, but I have to agree that I wasn't a huge fan of it, at least in comparison to what I was expecting. I have heard great things about the series in general, though, so I guess I'll have to pick up the other books and see for myself.

Quotes: The Nightingale

I realized that, over a year ago, I wrote a post called "Quotes: Audacity" , and that this post did really well (it's actually Reading is Inevitable's most read post!), and yet I never wrote another post of quotes from a book. I liked writing that post, too. I like sharing quotes I like from books. That's why I started doing it on our bookstagram page . So why did I never write another one of these "quote blog posts"? I don't know. But I intend to write at least another one. And that's why I'm here today. Well, there's that, and then there's also the amazing book that is The Nightingale.  If you've read some of my recent blog posts or have poked around a bit, you would know that exactly a month ago I published my book review on The Nightingale , in which I explained my love for it and why you should read it yourself. And while I actually have another post in the works on that book because it definitely deserves more than on

Book Review: The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes

Title: The Last Days of Rabbit Hayes Author:  Anna McPartlin Genre: Realistic Fiction Rating: 4 out of 5 Reviewer: Julia I can't believe how amazingly wonderful this book is. I can't believe that I put off reading it for so long. (I've had the book sitting with my other TBR books for at least a year now.) This book is beautiful and so well written, and it snagged at my heart, bringing a few tears to my eyes.
